Dr Gideon Stemmet

BSc BVSc MSc MANZCVS

Surgery (Resident)

Gideon grew up South Africa, close to Kruger National Park and after graduating from Onderstepoort he became a state vet, providing veterinary care to rural communities. He returned to Onderstepoort for an internship in Equine Medicine and Surgery and at the same time completed a Masters degree studying immobilisation techniques in zebras.

In 2018 he moved to Australia spending time in Queensland and Western Australia before commencing a surgical residency split between Charles Sturt University and REC Equine Specialists.

Gideon has a self confessed obsession with all things equine surgery related but particularly loves colic, dental and airway surgery. In his spare time he loves getting outdoors to camp and fish and the odd board game.
