Our dedicated specialist surgical team is led by Dr Jonathan Lumsden, Dr Chris O’Sullivan, Dr Hayley Lang, Dr Tate Morris and Dr Raf Labens, who are extensively trained in equine surgery and board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Our state-of-the-art surgical facilities feature dedicated theatres for orthopaedic, soft tissue, and abdominal (colic) surgery, in addition to a purpose-built standing surgery suite. With the capability to handle multiple procedures simultaneously, our surgical team is equipped to manage both emergency cases and scheduled surgeries promptly and efficiently.

 Services

  • Orthopaedic injuries are commonplace in both racing, competition and pleasure horses. REC Equine Specialist surgeons are highly experienced in the treatment of these conditions using the latest arthroscopic and fracture repair techniques.

  • Soft tissue surgery is used to manage a wide range of conditions which occur across all equine disciplines. Upper airway, tendon & ligament conditions and surgical treatment of colic represent some of the more common conditions treated by REC Equine Specialist surgeons.

  • Laser surgery is routinely undertaken by REC Equine Specialist surgeons and typically is done in the sedated standing horse, aided by the use of local anaesthesia. Conditions commonly treated with laser surgery include upper airway abnormalities and skin conditions.

  • REC Equine Specialists surgeons have extensive experience in the treatment of a wide range of routine and more complicated dental conditions. Surgical procedures are typically performed in the standing sedated horse with the aid of local anaesthesia, often following detailed accurate diagnosis by standing CT examination.

  • Despite the majority of eye conditions being successfully managed medically, REC Equine Specialists surgeons have vast experience the smaller number of eye conditions that require urgent surgical intervention and/or intensive in hospital treatment.
